The Kumasi High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Kenyasehene and the Odikro of Buobai after the two traditional leaders failed to appear when a case involving the alleged sale of public land was called.
Nine other accused persons, including former Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive Alidu Seidu, have been remanded in police custody after they were unable to meet their bail conditions.
The court had granted each of them bail set at GH¢800,000 with three justified landed property sureties, but the requirements have not been satisfied.
The accused faces 12 charges ranging from conspiracy to falsify land records and fraudulent breach of trust to unlawful occupation of public land and possession of forged documents.
According to prosecutors, the dispute centres on a 10.54-acre portion of a 19.06-acre parcel acquired in 1999 by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for public use.
The land was initially earmarked for a septage treatment facility after the closure of the landfill at Ahenema Kokoben. Following community resistance, plans stalled, and the land later became the subject of disputes.
Investigators allege that between June 2020 and January 2021, land reserved for a hospital project was unlawfully redesignated for residential use and divided into 34 plots for allocation to five businessmen.
The complaint was lodged by current Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive Ben Abdallah Alhassan. The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2026.
