Police assure of security for OccupyBoG Protest on October 3

The police have assured of providing adequate security for the minority caucus to occupy the premises of the Bank of Ghana on October, 3 to demand the resignation of the Governor and his deputies over mismanagement at the central bank.

The protest which initially was slated for September 12, 2023, was postponed to October 3, 2023, due to the failure of the police to mark out safe zones for the demonstration.

Minority leader Cassiel Ato Forson, addressing the media on September 11, noted that the picketing has been suspended for public safety.

However, the Accra Regional Police in a statement signed by COP Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba to the minority on September 12 noted that the regional police command will provide the required security for the demonstration in line with the Public Order ACT 1994(ACT 491).

The police further agreed with the minority to use the routes of Obra Spot, Adabraka, Ridge Roundabout, National Theatre Traffic Light, High Court Complex Traffic Light, Atta Mills Highway and to make a U-turn to the Independence Square.

The law enforcement agency advised the protestors to take the necessary steps to ensure that there was no breach of peace.

Demonstrators were also admonished to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during, and after the process.

“The Command assures you of our continuous cooperation and commitment to maintaining law and order for the intended public protest within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service”, the statement added.
