A new video has emerged concerning the alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
The video features a conversation between one of the senior police officers captured on tape discussing the plot, Superintendent George Asare and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Chief Bugri Naabu.
In the video, Superintendent Asare could be seen questioning Chief Naabu on the date the IGP will be leaving office following the Assin North elections.
“When is he going? He is delaying,” he said in the conversations.
Meanwhile, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, the chairman of the Parliamentary committee tasked to probe the issue, has revealed that the committee has obtained a new tape, which is supposed to be a comprehensive recording of the people involved.
According to him, the committee will examine the supposed new tape.
He said reviewing the tape would require an in-camera hearing to prevent sensitive information from becoming public due to security implications.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Asare, appearing before the Parliamentary committee on Monday, September 4, before the video emerged, said Chief Bugri Naabu invented stories against him.
He claimed that some of the comments attributed to him were the invention of Bugri Naabu and that he had made no plans to remove the IGP.
According to him, Chief Naabu called him for a meeting at his office, where the former NPP northern regional chairman informed him that the Akufo-Addo government was scouting for a new IGP and asked him for recommendations.
He, however, admitted to having the recorded audio conversation with Chief Naabu and COP George Alex Mensah on June 19, 2023.
