The suspended Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. (Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to staff who are on strike to return to work and continue caring for patients while discussions over their concerns continue at the national level.
In a statement issued from the Office of the Chief Executive on Monday, June 8, Dr. Baidoo thanked the hospital staff for what he described as their “show of solidarity” during the industrial action, which has affected services at the hospital.
However, he urged staff to return to duty and continue serving patients “in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and valued patients”.
He said management would leave any further decisions and directions to the “supreme wisdom” of the Minister of Health and the hospital’s governing board.
His appeal comes at a time when healthcare services at the hospital have been disrupted, making it difficult for many patients to access medical care because of the ongoing strike.
The situation follows a directive issued by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on June 5, ordering the Board of KATH to suspend Dr. Baidoo for two weeks with immediate effect.
The suspension was linked to Dr. Baidoo’s announcement of a temporary halt in emergency admissions at the hospital.
In a letter dated June 5, 2026, the Health Minister stated that the CEO’s decision to announce the temporary suspension of emergency admissions was inconsistent with instructions previously given by President John Dramani Mahama on how the situation at the hospital should be handled.
