The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has summoned the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, over allegations of harassment, intimidation, unnecessary delays and extortion by some police officers along the Aflao–Accra route.
The concerns relate to alleged misconduct at several checkpoints, including the Tokor Barrier, Ativuta Toll Booth and Weta–Afiadenyigba Junction Barrier, as well as other locations towards Sogakope.
The allegations came to public attention after a viral Facebook post claimed that some officers demand receipts from local traders transporting goods and allegedly extort money from those unable to produce the required documents.
The Joint Association of Port Transport Unions (JAPTU) has also called on senior police authorities to intervene.
The association said its concern was not the number of checkpoints but the alleged delays, intimidation and extortion reportedly experienced by traders along the route.
Following his meeting with the IGP, DCOP Akorli has scheduled a meeting with all Divisional and District Police Commanders on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to discuss the allegations and determine appropriate measures.
Meanwhile, police personnel deployed to the affected areas have been cautioned against misconduct.
The Police Administration is also putting together an inspection team to identify and investigate officers who may have been involved in the alleged misconduct.
