Policy analyst Dr. Steve Manteaw has linked the ongoing illegal mining to the inaction of authorities following arrests that are made.
According to him, there is a critical gap in the battle against galamsey, and addressing it promptly would be advantageous for Ghana.
Expressing his thoughts in a social media post, he stated, “The reason galamsey continues unabated is that beyond the arrests, we hear nothing about prosecutions. That’s the missing link”.
Additionally, Ghana has been struggling with illegal mining, despite ongoing efforts to combat the issue.
Tragically, eight brave individuals lost their lives in the fight against galamsey due to a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
