Dr. Jemima Quarte Mensah, the Medical Superintendent of the Kpone District Hospital, has disclosed that four cases of measles have been confirmed in Kpone Kokompe, located in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.
She stated that health authorities have heightened surveillance, contact tracing, and other measures to manage the outbreak and prevent further transmission of the viral infection.
Dr. Mensah made this announcement during the General Assembly meeting of the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly held in Kpone.
She said contact tracing and other planned initiatives have been effectively carried out as part of efforts to control and ultimately eliminate the infection in the affected area.
Dr. Mensah urged parents and guardians to report any suspected cases promptly to the nearest health facility for appropriate investigation and management.
She warned residents against using traditional remedies, local gin, or other unapproved treatments for suspected measles cases.
According to her, self-medication could exacerbate the condition of those affected and, in some instances, result in preventable fatalities.
“Parents should not hesitate to take their children to health facilities when they suspect any signs of measles,” she advised.
The Medical Superintendent also urged churches, schools, and other institutions where large groups of people congregate to implement strict preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission.
She encouraged these institutions to enhance hygiene practices, monitor individuals exhibiting signs of illness, and prompt suspected cases to seek medical attention without delay.
Dr. Mensah emphasized the significance of community collaboration with health authorities, highlighting that early reporting and compliance with public health directives are essential for containing the outbreak.
She appealed to residents to stay alert and assist health personnel in their efforts to prevent the disease from spreading to other communities within the municipality.
