Godwin Ako Gunn, a Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his intention to contest for the party’s National Communications Officer position in December.

Mr Gunn, who has served the party for more than 30 years, is seeking to succeed Sammy Gyamfi. He credited Mr Gyamfi with transforming the party’s communications outfit through initiatives such as improved panel placements and press conferences organised at different locations.

In a statement announcing his decision, Mr Gunn said his ambition was backed by decades of experience in the party, having held several positions over the years.

He said his experience had equipped him with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen the party’s communication strategy and build the capacity of its grassroots structures.

Mr Gunn pledged to serve the NDC with humility, dedication and a fearless voice if elected to the position.

“I served as the Chairman, Okaikoi North Finance Committee for four (4) years; a Branch Executive for twelve (12) years; a member of the Greater Accra Communication Committee for eight (8) years; a Deputy National Communication Officer for eight (8) years; and a member of the NDC Communication Team almost all my life.

He added, “This rich experience is what I bring to the table. I have served with all my heart and my abilities, and I commit myself to serve the present age and the young upcoming ones. I see it as a promise to be fulfilled”.

Mr Gunn said his decision to contest was motivated by his desire to continue serving the party and contribute to the growth and development of its younger members.

He also stressed the need to equip branch and constituency executives with communication skills to help them effectively communicate the government’s achievements, noting that local party members were well positioned to tell the NDC’s story.

Mr Gunn expressed appreciation to the party and recognised the contributions of Mr Gyamfi, Kwaku Boahen, Malik Basintale, Kakra Essamuah and Obuobia Darko-Opoku to the work of the communications team.

He acknowledged that the team had encountered significant challenges in implementing its initiatives but said it had made progress in strengthening the party’s communication activities.

He further recognised the influence of former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and current National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah on his political development.

He also thanked colleagues on the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) for their support.

Mr Gunn concluded by expressing gratitude to family members and friends who had supported him financially and in other ways throughout his political journey.
