NDC rejects collated results for 4 constituencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected the collation and declaration of results for four outstanding constituencies, describing the process as “illegal and unlawful.”

Rashid Tanko Computer, NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, addressed the media on Sunday, January 5, 2025, and revealed that the party instructed its parliamentary candidates not to participate in the collation exercise.

The NDC filed an appeal and stay of execution against the Accra High Court’s ruling that ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation.

According to Tanko, the EC had already been served with the court documents, which should have halted the process.

“It is inappropriate and legally baseless for the EC to proceed with the collation and declaration of results,” he stated.

Three of the four constituencies—Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South—had their results collated and declared in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday.

The fourth constituency, Ablekuma North, remains incomplete as the EC approaches the court-imposed deadline of Monday, January 6, 2025.

The NDC argues that the process undermines due legal process, asserting that any declarations made under such circumstances are null and void.

The party vows to explore all legal avenues to challenge the results and ensure that justice is served.

The High Court’s ruling had mandated the EC to collate results from the four constituencies, emphasising the need to resolve electoral disputes promptly.

However, the NDC’s resistance to the ruling adds another layer of complexity to Ghana’s post-election landscape.
