A pregnant woman has been killed, and two people have been injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on a group in Kukpalgu, in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region.

According to reports, the victims were returning from a prayer session when the assailants attacked.

The pregnant woman died on the spot when the gunshot reportedly hit her in the stomach.

One of the injured was shot in the hand, while the other sustained a gunshot wound that entered through her back and exited through her chest.

The two are currently at the Tamale Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.

Although the motive behind the attack is not clear, some residents suspect it is in connection with the tussle over the recent appointment of the District Chief Executive (DCE).

The people of Zabzugu have expressed dissatisfaction over the appointment, as the DCE is not a native of the area.

This displeasure has escalated tension in the area over the past few days.

Meanwhile, some residents who are living in fear are calling on authorities to probe the shooting incident and restore calm in the area.
