The Minority in Parliament says it will file a parliamentary motion for an independent investigation into the Aisha Huang saga if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo fails to act before the House resumes.
This was revealed by Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Alarmed that such a suspicious character outwitted the security agencies, the North Tongu legislator said an in-depth investigation should be conducted to unravel Aisha Huang’s conspirators to deal with the matter properly.
“One woman has made a mess out of our entire security apparatus. Made foolishness of the billions of cedis we have approved in Parliament over the years to enhance security”, he lamented.
He said President Akufo-Addo must act now or face the action of the NDC caucus upon the resumption of the House.
“The only way forward is to have a full-scale independent inquiry into this matter, and we have served notice that if the president will not take the step because they are all complicit and neck-deep and protect collaborators and conspirators who are clearly in cahoots with Aisha Huang when the house resumes, the NDC caucus in parliament will promptly file a motion to look into this international, monumental disgrace and embarrassment”, Mr. Ablakwa told Citi News.
The ‘Galamsey Queen’, Aisha Huang, was arrested in 2017 for engaging in illegal mining. The 47-year-old Chinese national was later deported in 2018 by the government, a move which triggered questions about Ghana’s commitment to eradicating the menace.
A few weeks ago, the ‘Galamsey Queen’ was re-arrested at her residence in Kumasi for her alleged involvement in selling and purchasing minerals without a license.
Her return to the country shocked many Ghanaians, sparking outrage.
Aisha Huang was said to have returned to China, changed her identity, and returned to Ghana to commit the same crime.
She is said to have applied for a Togo Visa and went through the borders into Ghana and back to the galamsey business in a town in the Ashanti Region.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General has called for the case docket to begin prosecuting Aisha Huang for her past and current offences.
