The acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh has placed a GH¢10,000 reward on the head of Eric Kojo Duah, the man suspected to have shot and killed two police officers at Kasoa Wednesday afternoon.
The main suspect, Eric Duah, whose pistol was found in the abandoned Toyota Camry has been declared wanted by the Police administration.
Addressing the media, the acting IGP, Oppong-Boanuh said such criminal and callous acts by suspected criminals would not intimidate the police from carrying out their mandate.
He noted “Anybody who is able to give us information as to the whereabouts of Eric Duah will be greatly rewarded. ”
Meanwhile, police investigations revealed the suspects allegedly shot Sergeant Micheal Gyamesi and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed, both personnel who were on task force duties on the Kasoa-Winneba highway.
The suspects were in an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle and said to be driving rather recklessly. They allegedly shot at the unarmed policemen after the two officers tried to stop them, information picked up by The Ghana Report has revealed.
Police sources confirmed Sergeant Gyamesi died on the spot while L/Corporal Mohammed died shortly after being rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra.
The police Wednesday afternoon arrested three other suspects in connection to the crime.
The suspects, Ibrahim Zakaria, Isaac Amissah and Dominic Commey are currently in police custody with the main perpetrator of the crime reportedly on the run.
The IGP has urged all operational teams to be alert and up to the task and also advised patrol teams to be robust in their approach in fighting crime, while taking into account the appropriate laws.
