The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, has rejected an apology made on his behalf by the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

This follows his expulsion from Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Monday, July 22, 2024.

The incident occurred during a debate on the nomination of two justices to the Supreme Court by President Akufo-Addo.

Speaker Bagbin suggested that the house consider the full complement of the Supreme Court when the Appointments Committee presents its report.

Dr Afriyie disagreed, asserting that it was not within the Speaker’s purview to make such comments.

Speaker Bagbin deemed Dr Afriyie’s remarks as “rude” and “disrespectful,” leading to his expulsion from the house.

Subsequently, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, apologized to the Speaker on behalf of the caucus.

However, Dr. Afriyie stated that he had not authorized the apology and denied any wrongdoing.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, monitored by theghanareport.com, Dr Afriyie insisted that his comments were not insulting or disrespectful to the Speaker and did not warrant an apology.

He emphasized that he had not done anything wrong and questioned the basis for the apology issued on his behalf.
