Fresh attack at Salaga SHS leaves one student hospitalised
A fresh wave of violence at the Salaga Senior High School (SHS) in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region has left one student unconscious, heightening fears of further unrest.
Amid growing concerns, several students, mainly boys from Salaga township, have fled the school, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
According to community sources, on Thursday, February 6, a group of students from Salaga confronted the headmaster, demanding the release of three individuals arrested by police following an earlier altercation between two student groups.
The students alleged that the arrests were unfair and insisted that members of the opposing group involved in the previous Saturday’s clash should also be detained to ensure justice.
When the headmaster refused their demand, the students began pelting stones in protest.
The situation escalated when youth from Kpembe, a suburb of Salaga, stormed the school and launched an attack on students, leaving one unconscious.
Despite the recent violence, authorities have yet to make any arrests.
However, police personnel have been deployed to the school to restore order and ensure the safety of students and staff.
Background
This latest attack follows a violent confrontation at the school on Saturday, February 1, which resulted in one student sustaining multiple stab wounds.
On Tuesday, February 4, police arrested 20 students in connection with the incident. Seventeen have since been granted bail and are required to report periodically to the police, while the remaining three are set to be processed for court.
During their investigation, police recovered a locally manufactured pistol and a round of ammunition from the scene.

School authorities have strongly condemned the violence, stressing the need for accountability.
“We have handed them over to the police and expect a thorough investigation. Those found guilty must face the full force of the law. This level of violence is unacceptable,” a school representative stated.
Police are currently taking statements from the suspects as part of their ongoing investigation.
To address the situation, a seven-member committee has been set up to investigate the clashes.
