Man remanded over cashew farm cutlass attack

The Berekum Circuit Court has remanded Emmanuel Yeboah into police custody following an alleged cutlass attack that left his brother and the brother’s wife seriously injured during a dispute over a cashew farm.

Mr Yeboah appeared before the court on Tuesday, facing charges of attempted murder and causing harm.

The court ordered that he be held in police custody pending further investigations.

He is expected to return to court on January 12, 2026.

According to the Bono Regional Police Command, the incident stems from a long-running disagreement within the family over the ownership of a cashew farm.

What began as a land dispute is said to have escalated into violence, leaving two people hospitalised and a family deeply shaken.

Police investigations indicate that Mr Yeboah allegedly lay in wait for his brother and sister in law as they made their way to the contested farm.

During the confrontation, a cutlass was reportedly used, causing injuries to both victims.

Officers who responded to the incident retrieved the weapon from the scene.

The attack was reported to the police on January 3, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspect on the same day.

The injured brother and his wife are currently receiving medical treatment at a health facility, where they are said to be in stable condition.

Confirming the case, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, said, “The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue, and we urge families involved in land disputes to seek lawful means of resolution”.
