The Twifo Hemang police have arrested a 47-year-old man for inflicting machete wounds on his 7-year-old son at Sumnyamekodur in the Central Region.

According to eyewitnesses, the father, Yaw Ansah, attacked the boy after he refused to run an errand for him.

The suspect reportedly attempted to chop off his son’s right wrist with the machete as punishment but failed.

However, the boy sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was later arrested after the eyewitnesses called the police.

Speaking to reporters, some neighbours recounted other instances where the suspect assaulted his three children at the least provocation.

They said in one instance, he succeeded in chopping off a finger from the 7-year-old’s left hand.

They further urged the police to ensure he faces the full wrath of the law.

“I was here in the house when I heard the man instructing the boy to hack a palm fruit, but the boy said the task was too much for him. He called the boy into the room and we shortly heard the boy screaming. We discovered he had slashed the boy’s wrist with a machete. We took him to the hospital for treatment. This is not the first time.

“He chopped off his left finger some time ago. He’s always abusing the children and even threatens to sell them. The police must deal with him,” one of the neighbours said.
