The Nigerian film industry is in deep mourning following the sudden passing of veteran actor Solomon Akiyesi.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Yakub Abubakar, confirmed that the actor died peacefully in his sleep after a short illness.
The tragedy began with a simple complaint of chest pain. Akiyesi’s daughter explained that after feeling unwell, her father visited a hospital where doctors diagnosed him with an ulcer.
After receiving medication, he returned home to rest, but he never opened his eyes again. Mr. Abubakar shared the chilling moment the family realised he was gone.
“His wife tried to wake him around 4 a.m., but he did not respond.”
The AGN president called the loss a massive blow to Nollywood and expressed the guild’s deepest sympathies to the grieving family.
Authorities have since moved his remains to a morgue in Abuja, the city where he passed away.
Across social media, heartbroken colleagues are celebrating a man who truly mastered his craft. Actress Celestina Dovigalle remembered him as a spark of energy who filled every movie set with laughter.
Akiyesi, who hailed from Edo State, dedicated decades to the screen after starting his career in the late 1990s. He leaves behind a legacy of over 100 films, proving himself as both a talented actor and a respected producer.
