Black Sherif was the biggest winner at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards after being crowned Artiste of the Year.
The glamorous awards night took place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the packed Grand Arena, where the 24-year-old musician won the top award for the second time in his career.
He first won the title in 2023, and this latest victory places him among the few artistes who have won the prestigious award more than once.
The competition for Artiste of the Year was intense, especially between Black Sherif and Medikal, who also had an impressive night after winning four awards.
In the end, Black Sherif’s success across several categories gave him the edge, as he walked home with five awards in total:
- Artiste of the Year
- Album/EP of the Year – Iron Boy
- Songwriter of the Year – Sacrifice
- Best Hiphop Song – Where Dem Boys
- Best Afropop Song – Sacrifice
To win the top award, he beat strong competition from some of Ghana’s biggest music stars, including Stonebwoy, Wendy Shay, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton.
Many believe his second album, Iron Boy, which was released in April 2025, played a major role in his victory. The album became very popular among fans and music lovers because of its emotional storytelling, unique sound and relatable messages.
Throughout the year, Black Sherif remained one of Ghana’s most consistent artistes, recording impressive streaming numbers and performing on major international stages, helping to promote Ghanaian music worldwide.
When he climbed the stage to receive the Artiste of the Year award, the crowd welcomed him with loud cheers and applause. Clearly emotional, he thanked his hometown, Konongo, and dedicated the award to young people working hard to achieve their dreams despite life’s struggles.
This second Artiste of the Year win further confirms Black Sherif’s influence in African music, especially among the younger generation. His ability to combine commercial success with deep and emotional storytelling continues to set him apart in Ghana’s music industry.
