The Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has assured that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will work professionally to ensure peace and stability in the December 2024 general elections.

With support from other security agencies, Lieutenant General Oppong-Peprah said that GAF will protect Ghana’s borders from external threats before, during and after the polls.

He made these submissions while addressing the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in a brief meeting.

“We want to assure our father and everyone that together, we will continue to maintain the peace and security of this country and we will continue to perform our duties as the Ghana Armed Forces to ensure that this country’s safety, stability, and peace are all well maintained and we will need his prayers in this direction.

“As we prepare for this year’s elections, we want to assure everyone in Ghana that we will play our role professionally to ensure that peace and security are maintained”.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has also pledged that the security agencies will act professionally to ensure that the 2024 elections are peaceful and incident-free.

According to the IGP, just as elections in the country have been peaceful since he assumed office, the 2024 polls will be no different.

Speaking at a meeting of the national election security task force at the police headquarters, Dr Akuffo Dampare assured the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) that everyone involved in the polls will be protected.

“We want to assure my sister (EC Chairperson) that we will continue to work with my colleagues here to ensure that just as elections in the country since I took over have been peaceful, the 2024 polls will be the same,’ he noted.
