The National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has extended his condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the assassination of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 3 March, the Muslim community in Ghana described the incident as a moment of profound grief for the global Islamic family.
For many worshippers, the news has cast a heavy cloud over the holy month of Ramadan, a period traditionally devoted to prayer, reflection and peace.
The Chief Imam portrayed Ayatollah Khamenei as a devoted leader who combined public service with deep religious commitment, presenting him as an example of how faith and governance can coexist in the pursuit of social stability and national development.
“The Supreme Leader was also a symbol of resistance and hope for the oppressed. His Eminence further extols the martyred leader of Iran,” the statement said.
While condemning the actions that led to the killing, the respected cleric also expressed sorrow for all lives lost in the conflict, regardless of nationality or religion.
He appealed to all sides to respect national sovereignty, human dignity and the sacred nature of Ramadan.
The statement called for an immediate end to hostilities and urged world leaders to choose dialogue over confrontation.
It concluded with prayers for Allah’s mercy upon Ayatollah Khamenei and all who have died in the unrest, asking that peace prevail over division.
