Executive Director of research firm Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, says Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia currently performs better than other leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants when matched against the top four potential candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview, Mr. Dankwa shared findings from the firm’s latest December poll, which examined several hypothetical presidential match-ups ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He explained that the data shows Dr. Bawumia consistently outperforms Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in head-to-head contests against likely NDC candidates, regardless of who the NPP eventually selects as its flagbearer.
“For example, if we assume the NPP chooses Kennedy and pitches him against the NDC’s top four contenders, the NDC candidate polls about 61 to 62 per cent, while Kennedy gets around 34 per cent,” he said.
Mr. Dankwa added that similar results were recorded across different match-ups. In one scenario, NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketiah polled 57 per cent against Kennedy’s 38 per cent. In another, Julius Debrah secured 53 per cent compared to Kennedy’s 41 per cent.
“These are scenarios we tested in the December poll that has just been released. Across all of them, Bawumia performs better. That’s what the data shows at the moment,” he noted.
While acknowledging that political trends can change over time, Mr. Dankwa stressed that the findings provide an early indication of voter preferences and highlight the need for careful strategic planning ahead of future elections.
