A fire tender from the Tamale Metro Fire Station experienced partial damage after it caught fire while attending to an emergency in Sakpaligu, a suburb of Tamale along the Savelugu Highway.
The fire tender, DPT No. FS 450 was dispatched at 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday with an eight-member crew led by Station Officer I Mohammad Gadafi.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., while en route to the incident, the vehicle caught fire, prompting the driver to manoeuvre it off the road into a ditch.
The crew responded promptly to control and extinguish the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
However, the fire tender incurred partial damage to the underside of the rear offside axle.

A backup appliance from the Sagnarigu Fire Station was promptly sent to continue addressing the original emergency.
The damaged fire tender has since been towed to the Regional Headquarters for evaluation and further action.
This incident exacerbates the already limited number of fire tenders in the region and is likely to hinder firefighting efforts.
