Akwatia by-election: Police probe assault on NPP 3rd Vice Chairman

The Akwatia District Police Command has initiated investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the by-election on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Alhaji Masawudu Osman was allegedly assaulted by the escorts of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, in a head-on scuffle.

According to Alhaji Masawudu, the altercation, which later led to an assault on him, ensued while he was speaking to the media near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been deployed to monitor the polls in the ongoing election.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command, in a statement, highlighted that a police medical form was provided to Alhaji Masawudu on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to seek treatment at a hospital.

Mr. Masawudu is to return the endorsed form for further investigations.

In the statement signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Region, the police assured of its commitment to conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The case has now been referred to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for further investigation.
