AFCON 2021: Asamoah Gyan reacts to Ghana’s draw

Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan, has shared his thoughts on the Black Stars’ group opponents for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

After the draw event in the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde on Tuesday evening, the Stars were placed in Group C and set to face North African giants Morocco, AFCON debutants Comoros and 2017 hosts Gabon.

Gyan, who was part of the invited football legends by CAF to assist with the draw, described the group as tricky but was optimistic the four-time African champions would progress.

“It’s a tricky group. Morocco are up there. I think they conceded just one goal during the qualification so statistically they are one of the strongest in the group,” Gyan said.

“But Ghana is up there as well. That’s my country and I’ll be rooting for them.

“Every team who has qualified for the AFCON is coming to win. Statistically, Ghana is up there but we don’t know what’s going to happen.

“We just have to make sure we qualify from the group stages and then we can think about winning the cup,” Gyan told host Mimi Fawaz on the stage of the draw.

The 33rd edition of the Cup of Nations will be played in Cameroon (five cities, six venues) from 6th January 2022 to 6th February 2022.
