A-G’s Transparency on High-Profile Cases Praised – Justice Abdulai

Private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai has commended Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine for his openness in handling high-profile cases, including the ongoing investigation into former Director-General of the Ghana Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, March 29, Abdulai emphasized the need for transparency in public office, stating that Dr. Ayine’s approach fosters accountability and public trust in the justice system.

He noted that while some have criticized the Attorney General for publicly addressing legal matters, such openness reassures Ghanaians about the progress of critical cases.

According to Abdulai, lack of visibility in institutions like the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has led to doubts about their effectiveness, a situation the AG is actively avoiding through his public engagements.

“For me, everything that reinforces transparency and the rule of law is something that I will go for, and I commend the AG for doing that because if the AG acts in the dark, we would never find him worthy of his office,” Abdulai stated.

He added that without regular updates on prosecutions, the public may assume that institutions such as the OSP are ineffective.

“The only reason why, today, for instance, we are questioning the existence of the OSP is because we don’t really see what is happening in that office. The only time you see something happening there is when they are in court, and the OSP has less than two cases there. I hear there are about three pending—no conviction, nothing,” he noted in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Channel One TV.

Abdulai believes the Attorney General’s approach is a necessary step in ensuring accountability and reinforcing public confidence in Ghana’s justice system.
