Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully brought under control a commercial fire that broke out at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and affected three shops on the ground floor of a one-storey commercial building.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 4:41 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a team from the Madina Fire Station, which arrived at the scene within two minutes.
With additional support from the Legon Fire Station, firefighters managed to control the blaze by 5:00 p.m. and fully extinguished it by approximately 5:25 p.m., less than 45 minutes after the initial call.
Preliminary assessments show that one shop and its contents were completely destroyed, while two others sustained partial damage. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The GNFS credited the swift and coordinated response of the firefighting teams for preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent structures, thereby averting a potentially major commercial disaster in the busy Madina area.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing.
