Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has reportedly been handed a four-match suspension following his dismissal during the club’s La Liga match against Villarreal.
The Brazilian winger is set to miss league fixtures against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander and Valencia, including the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona.
The suspension follows an incident during Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal on October 10, when Vinícius was shown a straight red card after pulling the hair of Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba.
Vinícius, who came on as a substitute, thought he had scored Real Madrid’s second goal before a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review overturned the goal and led to his dismissal.
The disciplinary committee reportedly imposed a two-match suspension for the hair-pulling incident, which was considered violent conduct, and an additional two matches for his reaction to the referee’s decision.
According to the referee’s report, the forward continued protesting aggressively after receiving the red card and had to be restrained by his teammates as he left the pitch.
Vinícius has been a central figure in Real Madrid’s attacking setup, and his absence could affect the team’s preparations for the upcoming El Clásico, one of the most anticipated fixtures in Spanish football.
The suspension is understood to apply to domestic league matches, meaning Vinícius could remain eligible for Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League fixtures during the period.
