Ghana’s Black Queens have advanced to the third round of the qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after recording a commanding 7-0 victory over Mauritius in the second leg of their second-round tie at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday.
The emphatic win secured a 10-0 aggregate triumph for the Queens, who had defeated Mauritius 3-0 in the first leg last Thursday.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side dominated proceedings, combining attacking pace and precision to overwhelm their opponents and strengthen Ghana’s pursuit of a place at the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympics.
Captain Portia Boakye opened the scoring for Ghana before Evelyn Badu doubled the advantage. Ajegipina Zakaria then added a third goal to give the hosts a comfortable lead at half-time.
The Queens maintained their attacking intensity after the break, with their substitutes contributing significantly to the final scoreline.
Benedicte Simon made an immediate impact after coming on, finding the net in the 73rd minute to extend Ghana’s lead.
Jennifer Cudjoe added the fifth goal in the 87th minute as the hosts continued to exploit gaps in the Mauritius defence.
Nancy Amoh and Mukarama Abdulai subsequently scored late goals to complete the seven-goal rout and cap an impressive performance in front of the home supporters.
The Black Queens will now turn their attention to the third round, where they will continue their bid to secure a historic first appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
