The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled Edo Queens’ 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifying final.
The decision means the final will resume from the 2-2 scoreline, with both teams required to play 30 minutes of extra time before a winner can be determined.
The original final was played on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The two teams were level at 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the match went directly to penalties.
Edo Queens won the shootout 4-1 and appeared to have secured the WAFU Zone B ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
However, Ampem Darkoa protested the decision, arguing that the competition regulations required extra time to be played before penalties.
CAF has now upheld the Ghanaian side’s protest. The governing body said the failure to play extra time resulted from an administrative instruction and was not the fault of either club.
CAF also rejected a request for the entire match to be replayed. Instead, the 90 minutes already played remain valid, and the teams will continue from the 2-2 scoreline.
The two sides will play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If they remain level after the additional 30 minutes, a new penalty shootout will be held to determine the winner.
WAFU Zone B will announce the date, kick-off time and venue for the continuation in consultation with CAF and the two national associations.
The winner of the decisive encounter will claim the zone’s qualification ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
