The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has ordered Ponlok Company Limited in Shai to suspend operations over multiple environmental breaches.
The directive follows investigations into complaints about the company’s persistent smoke emissions.
According to the EPA, inspections revealed visible emissions affecting air quality, inadequate pollution-control and monitoring systems, poor sanitation and housekeeping, improper waste disposal and oil spills within the company’s operational areas.
The Authority said the company had previously been directed to address the concerns and was given additional time to implement corrective measures.
However, several of the issues remained unresolved, leading to the latest enforcement action.
The company has been ordered to halt operations and install the required pollution-control and monitoring equipment while addressing the outstanding environmental concerns.
The EPA said the action is intended to protect public health and the environment and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
It also reminded businesses that environmental compliance is mandatory.
“Protecting the environment is a collective responsibility. Compliance is non-negotiable,” the EPA said.
