18 GPL clubs name captains for 2026/27 season

The 18 clubs competing in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) will be led by a blend of experienced players and young talents who have been entrusted with captaincy roles.

Among the notable captains is 17-year-old left-back Alidu Labaran Majeed of Vision FC. He is the youngest captain in the league and will lead the club as they prepare for the new campaign.

Young Apostles have also handed the captain’s armband to Ramzy Abubakar.

At Hearts of Oak, experienced goalkeeper Benjamin Asare will captain the team. Asare recently represented the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and brings valuable experience to the Phobians.

Former Ghana Premier League top scorer Augustine Okrah will also provide leadership at Bechem United.

Asante Kotoko have appointed Lord Amoah as their captain for the new season, while centre-back Gideon Anaba will lead Gold Stars.

Experienced right-back Fatawu Mohammed continues in a leadership role at Karela United. Alex Boakye, meanwhile, will captain Aduana FC.

Ishmael Addo has been entrusted with the captaincy at Heart of Lions, while experienced midfielder Justice Blay returns to the Ghana Premier League as captain of newly promoted FC AshantiGold.

The other newly promoted clubs have also named their leaders ahead of the season.

Bariu Sule will captain Debibi United, while Hamza Zakari has been named captain of Port City. Kwaku Asuandzi will lead Swedru All Blacks, with Emmanuel Adu Siaw taking charge as captain of FC Samartex.

The selection of captains highlights the mix of youth and experience across the league.
