The 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship ended with several young footballers receiving individual recognition after impressive performances throughout the 11-day competition.
Ashanti Region, who were crowned champions after defeating defending champions Eastern Region 4-3 in a thrilling final, dominated several of the major individual awards.
Ashanti midfielder Elvis Kwarteng was named the Most Valuable Player of the final after delivering an influential performance in the decisive encounter.
Kwarteng scored Ashanti Region’s third goal in the 78th minute to put his side 3-2 ahead. Although Eastern Region quickly restored parity, Ashanti eventually secured victory through substitute Emmanuel Boateng.
Ashanti’s success also saw goalkeeper Kelvin Osei Owusu named the Goalkeeper of the Championship, rewarding his consistent performances throughout the tournament.
The team’s coach, Raphael Amankwah, was also recognised after being named Best Coach of the Championship. His achievement came after guiding Ashanti Region to the title and ending Eastern Region’s reign as defending champions.
Greater Accra Region’s Dennis Adjei emerged as the tournament’s top scorer after finding the net six times during the competition.
His goalscoring form was one of the highlights of the championship, which brought together young players competing at the Second Division level.
The MTN Elite U-19 Championship is designed to help identify and nurture young talents who could eventually progress to higher levels of the domestic game and national youth teams.
