The Effutu Traditional Council has appealed to the government to caution Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, over comments it believes could worsen tensions between the Effutu and Gomoa communities.
The call follows deadly clashes at New Winneba in the Central Region, which left three people dead and several others injured.
Chief of Staff to the Effutu Omanhene, Ebo Ghartey, said political and community leaders must exercise restraint in their public statements as efforts continue to restore peace in the affected areas.
His concerns follow remarks by A-Plus, who warned that residents of Gomoa could take collective action if the Police fail to provide adequate protection following the violence.
The MP said residents could give the government a seven-day ultimatum to address their security concerns. He further indicated that chiefs across Gomoa could be brought together to agree on a common position if the situation was not resolved.
However, Ghartey said such statements could inflame tensions and undermine ongoing efforts to calm the situation.
Speaking at a press conference in New Winneba, he urged political leaders to be mindful of the possible consequences of their comments, particularly at a time when tensions remain high.
The Chief of Effutu Ayipe, Nenyi Apraku, also called on politicians to use their influence to promote peaceful coexistence and development rather than make statements that could deepen divisions between the two communities.

Meanwhile, the Abusuapanin of New Winneba, William De-Carthia, has rejected allegations that the three people who died during the violence were killed by Effutu youth.
He described the claim as false and called for a proper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths before any community or group is blamed.
The Effutu Traditional Council is also calling for security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable.
The Council’s position is that restoring peace requires cooperation from traditional authorities, politicians, security agencies and residents on both sides.
