Six students of Okuapeman Senior High School (SHS) have sustained injuries following a violent clash between students of Okuapeman SHS and Mount Sinai SHS in the Akuapem North Municipality.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with several facilities at both schools reportedly damaged or destroyed during the violence.
The Headmaster of Okuapeman SHS said four of the injured students have been treated and discharged, while two remain on admission.
At Okuapeman SHS, the Visual Arts studio, a teachers’ office and seven classrooms were reportedly burnt. Examination papers and certificates were also destroyed.
At Mount Sinai SHS, a storeroom and the boys’ washroom were among the facilities damaged by fire.
Eastern Regional Minister and Chairperson of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said investigations are underway to determine what triggered the violence.
She warned that students found culpable would face the full force of the law, stressing that those who initiated the attacks would not be allowed to go unpunished.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Owusu-Bempah, condemned the violence and the reported attack on police officers deployed to the schools.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewaa, also described the incident as unfortunate and urged students to resolve disputes peacefully as security agencies work to restore calm.
