Spanish giants Barcelona have reportedly completed an agreement to sign highly rated 16-year-old defender Mikael Baza from German club Hamburg.
The young centre-back is expected to sign a contract with Barcelona running until 2029, with the move designed to strengthen the club’s youth structure and develop Baza for the future.
Reports from Germany indicate that the agreement has been reached and the player is expected to complete his medical before formally putting pen to paper.
Baza is regarded as one of the promising defensive talents in his age group in Germany. The left-footed centre-back has represented Germany at youth level and has been part of Hamburg’s youth setup, where his performances attracted interest from several major clubs.
Barcelona’s plan is to introduce the teenager gradually through the club’s youth and reserve teams. He is expected to be involved with Barça’s youth setup and Barça Atlètic as he continues his development, with the long-term ambition of eventually challenging for a place in the senior team.
The deal was reportedly facilitated by prominent football agent Pini Zahavi. Baza had attracted interest from other clubs, including Bayern Munich, but Barcelona moved quickly to secure his services.
The teenager also has a notable football connection. He is the cousin of Germany international and Bayern Munich defender Jonathan Tah, who also developed through Hamburg’s youth system before establishing himself at the highest level.
