The Ghana Police Service has ordered concrete mixer trucks off the roads in Accra and Tema for three days following growing concerns over concrete spills, road damage and the risks posed to motorists and other road users.
The directive took effect on Friday, August 28, 2026, and will remain in force until Sunday, August 30.
The temporary ban follows a meeting held on Thursday, August 27, between the Police Service, the National Security Secretariat and owners and operators of transit mixer trucks.
The meeting, led by Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, focused on road safety and the need for operators of concrete mixer trucks to strictly comply with traffic regulations.
One of the major concerns raised was the spilling of concrete and other construction materials onto public roads by the trucks. Such spills can create dangerous driving conditions, obstruct traffic and contribute to the deterioration of road surfaces.
The authorities subsequently directed operators to ensure that no concrete or other materials are discharged or left on roads during transportation and construction activities.
As part of the temporary measure, all concrete mixer trucks have been directed to stay off roads within Accra and Tema throughout the three-day period.
The Police Service has warned that operators who defy the directive will face enforcement action in accordance with the law.
The restriction is also intended to give the relevant authorities an opportunity to clear and clean roads affected by concrete and other construction materials.
Representatives of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, and the owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks were present at the meeting.
