Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has sent a strong warning to his players after the French champions were held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes in their opening Ligue 1 match of the season.
Ousmane Dembélé was one of the players taken off at half-time after a disappointing first-half performance. Luis Enrique also substituted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with new signing Ferran Torres and Mika Godts introduced as PSG looked to change the game.
PSG had a difficult start to the match and went into the break 2-0 down. However, Torres made an immediate impact from the bench, scoring twice in the second half to rescue a point for the visitors.
After the match, Enrique explained his decision to make the early substitutions and delivered a clear message to his star players. The Spanish coach said past success would not guarantee anyone a place in his starting team.
“Football is like that. Paris Saint-Germain have won nothing, nothing,” Enrique said. “If you think about what you’ve won, you’re not going to win anything. There is no credit.”
The coach stressed that every player must continue to prove himself in training and matches. He also warned his squad against becoming comfortable because of their achievements in previous seasons.
Enrique’s comments come after PSG enjoyed a highly successful 2025/26 campaign, including another Champions League triumph. The club are now targeting another Ligue 1 title and an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League crown, but the manager knows maintaining that level will be difficult.
He said players must be willing to leave their comfort zones if they want to continue winning.
The performance of Torres has also increased competition within the PSG squad. The forward scored twice on his debut after replacing Dembélé, showing Enrique that he has several options available.
