The Police have seized about 500 cartons of Tramadol and arrested a 21-year-old Burkinabe national during an intelligence-led operation at Widana.
The operation took place at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18. It was carried out by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) together with an operational team known as “The Black Cobra”.
The operation came after the Police spent about a month gathering information on suspected activities involving the importation and distribution of illegal drugs in the area.
During the operation, the Police found the drugs, which included different brands of Tramadol, in a privately operated warehouse and some residential buildings.

During the operation, the Police found the drugs, which included different brands of Tramadol, in a privately operated warehouse and some residential buildings.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Abdul Ali, was arrested and is currently helping the Police with their investigations.
According to preliminary information gathered by the Police, foreign nationals from Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso and Senegal are allegedly involved in bringing the illegal drugs into the country.
The Police also believe that Widana is being used as a transit and distribution point, where the drugs are kept before being moved to other locations.
Investigations are still ongoing as the Police work to identify other people who may be connected to the suspected drug network and find out how far the operation extends.
