The Black Satellites fought back bravely to secure a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso in their second Group B match of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship on Thursday, despite playing much of the game with ten men.
The exciting encounter took place at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, where Ghana showed great determination after being reduced to ten players following the dismissal of defender Kofi Junior Kumah.
Burkina Faso, known as the Young Stallions, capitalised on their numerical advantage and took the lead, putting the Black Satellites under pressure. However, the Ghanaian side refused to give up and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off when Joseph Badu found the back of the net to restore parity and give Ghana a deserved point. The goal highlighted the team’s fighting spirit as they held on for the remainder of the match despite being a player short.
The result leaves Ghana third in Group B with one point from two matches. Having lost their opening game, the Black Satellites now face a must-win final group fixture against Togo if they are to finish the tournament on a strong note.
Although the WAFU B U-20 Championship serves as the qualification tournament for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana has already secured a place at the continental competition by virtue of being the host nation.
Even so, the tournament remains an important opportunity for head coach and his technical team to assess the squad under competitive conditions.
The matches are expected to help improve team chemistry, expose the players to high-level competition and allow the coaching staff to fine-tune the team before the continental championship begins in Ghana next year.
