The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reported to the Ghana Police Service an incident involving a police officer who allegedly threatened employees of a towing company with a firearm during a dispute regarding a vehicle that was improperly parked.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 22, the Assembly indicated that the incident, which has since gained significant attention on social media, occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at Roman Hill in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
According to the KMA, staff from Day and Night Towing Service, a company engaged by the Assembly, had clamped a saloon car that was parked in an unauthorised area and were in the process of towing it when a uniformed police officer, identified as Y.E. Aboagye, arrived and asserted ownership of the vehicle.
The Assembly stated that the officer questioned the towing team’s authority to remove the vehicle, resulting in a heated verbal confrontation.
It was alleged that during this altercation, the officer threatened to shoot one of the towing personnel in the foot if they continued with their actions.
Describing the incident as “unfortunate and highly avoidable,” the KMA confirmed that it has formally reported the issue to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
The Assembly also clarified that the incident did not involve its Security Taskforce, urging the public to dismiss claims circulating on social media that suggest otherwise.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard any false information linking the said video to the KMA Security Taskforce,” the statement added.
