NPP cannot win with divisions and open wounds – Paul Afoko

National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, asserts that the party cannot regain power unless it addresses its internal conflicts and reconciles members who feel marginalised.

During the formal declaration of his candidacy and the presentation of his vision for the NPP on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Afoko emphasised that unity is essential for restoring public trust in the party and enhancing its prospects in upcoming elections.

“The NPP cannot win when it is divided. We cannot win when old wounds remain open,” he stated.

Afoko noted that the party’s success is unattainable if dedicated members continue to feel overlooked or if internal rivalries escalate into harmful disputes.

“We cannot win when loyal members feel excluded, humiliated, ignored, or pushed aside. We cannot win when our internal competition becomes internal destruction,” he remarked.

He urged a return to what he referred to as the party’s core values of respect, discipline, tolerance, service, and loyalty.

“We must bring back the abiding principles of our tradition, which are respect, discipline, tolerance, service, and loyalty to a cause bigger than any one individual,” Afoko stated.

The former NPP National Chairman expressed that his candidacy is focused on mending divisions within the party rather than promoting the interests of any specific faction.

“I’m not coming to lead one faction against another. I’m coming to help reconcile the party. I’m coming to build bridges across generations, across regions, across tendencies, across camps, and amongst all genuine party people who believe in our tradition,” he explained.

Afoko’s remarks arise as the NPP gears up for its internal elections to select new national executives who will guide the party’s reorganisation following its loss in the 2024 general election.
