A dilapidated building at Abebrese Street in Osu in the Korle Klottey Constituency has been pulled down following an order from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) due to safety concerns.
The structure, which had been in a deteriorating state for several years, had become a source of worry for authorities.
Earlier, authorities indicated that multiple warnings had been issued to residents to vacate the premises due to fears of a potential collapse.
According to the Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the structure had already been designated for demolition after an assessment by authorities determined it to be unsafe for continued occupancy.
She also noted that notices, including “Danger” and “Evacuate,” had been previously served to residents, urging them to leave the premises.
Officials indicated that the demolition forms part of broader efforts to identify and remove unsafe structures across the capital to protect lives and property.
They also urged owners of abandoned or unsafe buildings to take the necessary steps to renovate or demolish them before they pose risks to the public.
