Ghana needs development not ‘Thank You’ tours – Appiah Danquah

Head of Legal for the United Party (UP), Andrew Appiah Danquah, has criticised the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its ongoing nationwide “Thank You” tours.

He says the party should instead focus on addressing the country’s urgent problems.

Speaking on Saturday, May 23, 2026, he argued that the tours by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and President John Dramani Mahama do not match the expectations of citizens, especially at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling with economic and social challenges.

The NDC has been carrying out these tours after its victory in the 2024 general elections. Party leaders use the visits to thank supporters and engage with them across different regions.

President Mahama has also launched a “Resetting Ghana Tour” to communicate government policies and express appreciation to voters.

Mr. Appiah Danquah said political gratitude should go beyond speeches and ceremonies. He stressed that effective governance remains the best way to show appreciation to citizens.

He urged the government to focus on policies that improve living standards rather than political events. According to him, most citizens care more about real solutions to their daily problems than post-election tours.

“In my honest opinion, it is not a ‘Thank You’ tour. I also have an issue with this whole concept of ‘Thank You’ tour. I don’t want to rehash the problems we are facing. Thank us by solving our problems. That is the best ‘Thank You,’” he said.

Mr. Appiah Danquah also warned that how the ruling party handles its early post-election activities could influence public perception of its performance.

He urged the government to prioritise results and avoid focusing too much on political optics.
