New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship aspirant Mr. Awentami Paul Afoko has urged the party to move away from speculation and implement a research-oriented approach to safeguard its parliamentary positions and restore its electoral supremacy.
During his address to the NPP Minority Caucus in Accra, Afoko emphasised that the party’s prospects in 2028 hinge on strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, and enhanced communication.
“We need to be focused so we can bring to bear what we have set our minds to do,” he told the MPs. “No more guesswork. If we want to win, we must know exactly where we stand, constituency by constituency.”
Mr. Afoko added that the priority must be to safeguard the party’s current holdings.
“We now have 87 MPs. What we have, we protect,” he stated. “But protection alone is not enough. We must deliberately find a way to gain more seats and expand our footprint.”
The former National Chairman characterised the proposal as central to his comprehensive political strategy, which he asserts necessitates the support of the entire party framework to be effective.
“This is part of the strategy I have, and I am asking for your support to make it a reality,” he appealed.
He contended that contemporary elections are determined by intelligence rather than intuition and urged the NPP to invest in polling, focus groups, and rapid feedback mechanisms to gauge voter sentiment before it translates into opposition votes, vowing to spearhead this initiative.
“I believe in research-based activities,” he stated. “When you combine that with improved, targeted communication, you give the party the strength to connect with Ghanaians and win their trust.”
He concluded that a united, informed, and disciplined NPP is the sole avenue to reclaiming lost ground and regaining power with a more robust mandate.
