The final funeral rite for legendary gospel artiste, Yaw Sarpong, is scheduled on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Asuofua Town Park in Kumasi.

The funeral proceedings will commence with a wake-keeping on Friday, May 8, followed by a lying-in-state on Saturday morning at the same location.

A thanksgiving service is also planned for Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Sokoban-Ampayoo.

The family has designated a dress code for mourners: red and black for Saturday’s burial service and white and black for Sunday’s thanksgiving service.

Yaw Sarpong, the founder and leader of the Asomafo Band, is fondly remembered for his significant contributions to Ghana’s gospel music scene.

For nearly five decades, he was regarded as one of the nation’s most esteemed gospel voices, ministering through timeless songs such as Wo Haw Ne Sen, Awurade Kasa, and Tie Obiaa.

His profoundly spiritual music and unique style garnered admiration across various generations and denominations, while his collaboration with the Asomafo Band played a pivotal role in the advancement of gospel music in Ghana.

In acknowledgement of his exceptional contributions to the music industry, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2025.
