Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked the government to apologize to Ghanaians over the recent power outages.
He believes the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, led by John Dramani Mahama, has not kept its promise to fix the country’s energy problems.
During an interview on April 3, 2026, he said many parts of the country are still experiencing frequent power cuts, even though the government had assured citizens that electricity supply would improve.
Haruna Mohammed also criticized how the energy sector is being managed. According to him, the current government has ignored policies that were put in place by the previous administration, and this has slowed down progress in the sector.
“…It’s a complete neglect of the energy sector policy that we have left for them. And that is where we are. It’s about time that the NDC comes out openly to apologize to the good people of Ghana and tell them that they lied to them in power and they cannot fix that,” he stated.
At the same time, the Minister for Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that power generation at the Akosombo Dam has been fully restored.
The recent outages were caused by a fire at a substation owned by the Ghana Grid Company in Akosombo. The incident led to a loss of over 1,000 megawatts of electricity, which affected power supply in several parts of the country.
