The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident at Gomoa Ankamu near Apam Junction in the Central Region, resulting in one fatality.

According to a statement issued by the Service, the Apam Fire Station received an emergency call at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, reporting a collision between a Kia Picanto with registration number GW 8314-21 and a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GJ 823-21.

Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the location, where they discovered one occupant trapped within the Kia Picanto.

The rescue team successfully extricated the victim and transferred him to the Ghana National Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention at Saint Luke Hospital.

Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Initial investigations indicate that the Hyundai Rhino truck, which was heading towards Winneba, attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed, lost control, and collided head-on with the Kia Picanto that was travelling towards Cape Coast.

Both vehicles incurred significant damage.
