Wenchi MCE urges aid for displaced Gbinyiri residents

Hundreds of people displaced by recent violent clashes in Gbinyiri are now sheltering in Subinso II, located in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

Over 650 residents, mostly women and children from the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba district in the Savannah Region, fled their homes fearing for their safety.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi, Ms. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, visited the affected residents and is urgently appealing for public support.

She described the situation on the ground as deeply troubling, especially for children who are without food, shoes, and proper clothing.

“The food we have is not enough. Looking at the large number of children, what we currently have will last just a day. Some of the children are barefoot, and their clothes are worn out,” Ms. Opoku Gyamfi told the media.

She is calling on individuals, businesses, and non-governmental organisations to donate food, clothes, and other essential supplies.

These donations can be handed over to the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for immediate distribution.

The MCE also urged the displaced residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could lead to further tensions.

She assured them that local security agencies are actively monitoring the area to maintain peace and protect the vulnerable.

According to Ms. Opoku Gyamfi, ensuring the safety and dignity of these displaced families should be a shared responsibility.
