The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s concerns about the electoral register.
The NDC, through its Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah, had accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of manipulating the voter register.
They claimed that the exhibition exercise revealed missing names and unauthorized voter transfers.
According to the opposition NDC, these discrepancies could undermine the credibility of the upcoming elections if not addressed promptly.
The party further called for a forensic audit of the register and urged Parliament to probe the matter.
In response, the NPP’s Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, dismissed the NDC’s allegations.
He argued that the purpose of the voter exhibition exercise is to allow political parties and the general public to identify and correct any discrepancies before the register is finalized for the 2024 elections.
Mr Nimako emphasized that the process is a routine part of election preparations and is designed to ensure the accuracy of the final voter register.
He further said that the NDC’s concerns are needless and reflect a misunderstanding of the purpose of the exhibition exercise.
He reiterated that the NPP is confident in the integrity of the electoral process and encouraged all political parties to cooperate with the EC to ensure a credible and accurate voter register.
The exercise was held at all polling stations (exhibition centres) in all 268 district offices nationwide from 7 am to 6 pm daily.
The exhibition allowed voters to review registration details, check their polling stations and make changes to their details.
