A 9-year-old girl has reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at Tonyx Hotel near Aberewa Nkwanta at Koforidua in the Eastern region.
According to reports, the girl went to the venue with her father and five siblings on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the reports indicate that she did not participate in swimming activities but was instead taking pictures with other children by the pool.
However, she was later found unresponsive in the pool when the family decided the leave the hotel.
A family member who narrated the event to reporters said ‘The child didn’t swim. She sat near the pool to take pictures. She went with her father, but later, the father started searching for her all over. Then someone alerted him that the child was under the pool. She was removed and rushed to the Central Hospital”.
She was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the Koforidua Divisional Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning incident.
The management of Tonyx Hotel has since expressed deep regret over the incident and assured full cooperation with the police towards the investigations.
They have also visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them.
